Best 12V Drills: Reviews
Craftsman N17586 NEXTEC Drill
If you need a really high-quality drill that comes at a moderate price, especially considering its high level of durability and functionality, the Craftsman N17586 NEXTEC Drill is one that you will want to take a closer look at.
The Craftsman N17586 NEXTEC Drill is a very small and lightweight drill. You would not think that it has as much power as it does by looking at it. This drill is small and light, so much so that is a good option to get into really tight spaces that other drills cannot access. You should also be able to use it with a single hand without issue – that is how lightweight it is.
Now, although it is small and lightweight, it does still deliver up to 195 inch/pounds of torque, which is not the strongest of all drills out there, but considering its small size, and the fact that it is battery powered, it’s really quite impressive. The Craftsman N17586 NEXTEC Drill comes with a dual-speed gear box so you can adjust the drilling and screwing speed to suit your needs.
It produces up to 1300 RPM, which once again, considering its size, is not too bad at all. It also has an 18 position adjustable torque clutch. What is impressive as well is that the battery of the Craftsman N17586 NEXTEC Drill is Energy Star qualified, it has a long life, and charges in just 30 minutes. This is great for at home and basic use, but keep in mind that it’s not something for a contractor who is going to put it through super heavy use.
- Small, compact, and lightweight
- Great battery life
- Decent amount of power for its size
Not for heavy-duty jobs
Hyperikon Electric Power Drill
If you are on the hunt for a very affordable drill that is good for basic at home jobs, one that comes with drill and driver bits included, the Hyperikon Electric Power Drill is a decent option to keep in mind.
The Hyperikon Electric Power Drill is designed to be very convenient and comfortable to use. It comes with an ergonomic grip handle coated in somewhat soft rubber. It should be easy to hold for a prolonged period of time, which is also true due to its lightweight design. Not only is it lightweight, but also quite compact. It’s a convenient drill to go with if you need a one-handed drill that can fit into tight spaces and won’t cause fatigue. On a side note, the included LED precision light is a nice addition, as it lets you see what is going on in dark conditions.
The Hyperikon Electric Power Drill is a 2-gear drill driver. The low gear can go up to 400 RPM and the high gear can go up to 1400 RPM. For a small drill that comes at a low price, this is not too bad at all. Moreover, the Hyperikon Electric Power Drill comes complete with various drill and driver bits, plus it has a keyless chuck system so you don’t need tools just to change the bit. This drill has an OK battery, but not the best.
The battery will take about 3 hours to charge, and its runtime is somewhat limited. This is what makes this drill ideal for home use and smaller jobs, but not if you need to use it for hours on end, at least not without a spare battery.
- Comfortable to hold
- Small and lightweight
- Impressive amount of RPM
- Limited durability
- Battery has its limits
Bosch Max Brushless Drill & Driver Kit
When it comes to compact and lightweight drill drivers, this has to be one of the best options in its class. It might not be the most powerful or long-lasting drill out there, but when it comes to tight spaces and basic drilling and driving tasks, it gets the job done just fine.
Something that needs mentioning here is that this drill comes with 2 batteries. Now, the batteries do not have the best battery life, and they take a bit of time to charge, but the fact that you get 2 batteries is pretty useful. The charger comes included as well. As we mentioned before, in terms of both weight and size, this is one of the smallest and lightest 12V drills out there right now.
It also features an ergonomic design with a comfortable grip. If you need a small drill that can fit into tight spaces and be used with a single hand, the Bosch Max Brushless Drill & Driver Kit is a good option to go with. It is a bit pricey, but it also has a whole lot of durability.
What is also convenient is that it comes with a keyless bit change system, plus a magnetic bit holder as well, both of which makes life quite a bit easier. The Bosch Max Brushless Drill & Driver Kit has a 2-speed transmission with the highest setting going up to 1300 RPM with 180 inch/pounds of torque. As we said, it is not the most powerful drill in existence, but it is small and versatile, and should do fine for basic around-the-house tasks.
- Comes with 2 batteries
- Very durable
- Small, compact, and maneuverable
- A bit pricey
- Battery life is not the best
When it comes down to it, although it is a bit pricey, we think that the best option here is the Bosch Max Brushless Drill & Driver Kit. However, if you want something very basic for occasional at-home use, the Hyperikon Electric Power Drill makes for a more affordable option.
